The Great “I AM.” . . Revealed to Moses as the One and Only Real Mind or Power in the Universe. That beside Which there is no other. I AM is another way of saying God. The “I AM” in man is the Life of man; without this “I AM,” man could not be.
The I AM That I AM is the infinite Power House wherein the ever existent good is generated and maintained. According to Genesis, God declared: “Let the earth bring forth grass . . Let the waters bring forth the moving creatures . . Let the earth bring forth the living creatures. And it was so.” The command, you see, was definitely stated for the desired thing. Let there be this particular thing! “And it was so.”
When you make a declaration, affirmation or statement of what you wish to do, or what you desire to bring to pass, remember this paramount fact: spiritual things must be spiritually conceived and brought forth. Therefore, when you think, do not feel that it is a human mind you are using with which to bring about some special good, but as the man of God, the I AM Self, know that you are thinking with the Christ Mind and you will inevitably bring forth what is rightfully yours. Then your Word, spoken as by the divine Mind, is your authority that it shall not return to you void, but shall go forth and multiply your good. This was Jesus’ authority, and likewise may be yours.
The soul, or the “I AM,” already has within itself everything that is good, and if you would have all of these good things from within express themselves in your personality, you must think and live right. You must think the truth and think it constantly. Before there can be action in the without there must be thought in the within, and as is the thought within so will be the action without.
Then Jesus said, “Ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.” This statement covers many facets of man’s life, but in this context it has a special meaning. The Bible says that there were those in the crowd who answered, “We be Abraham’s seed, and were never in bondage to any man: how sayest thou, Ye shall be made free?” Jesus told them they were judging after the flesh but if they would change their minds and understand that the Son . . the I AM . . has all power, then they would be free indeed and no longer have to rely upon intermediaries, or upon some supposed good that came out of the past.
Because I AM (your consciousness) is the resurrection and the life, you must attach this resurrecting power that you are to the thing desired if you would make it appear and live in your world. Now you begin to assume the nature of the thing desired by feeling, “I AM wealthy”; “I AM free”; “I AM strong”. When these ‘FEELS’ are fixed within yourself, your formless being will take upon itself the forms of the things felt. You become ‘crucified’ upon the feelings of wealth, freedom and strength. Remain buried in the stillness of these convictions. Then, as a thief in the night and when you least expect it, these qualities will be resurrected in your world as living realities.
The worldly minded state of consciousness in all of us which looks into the far distant future and says, “Someday I will reach my goal. Someday I will be happy.” This is not the correct attitude, for we must realize that we can take our desire in consciousness . . I AM, Not I will . . now and bring it to birth immediately if only we will believe.
It is not stated, “I, Jesus, am the door. I, Jesus AM the way”, nor is it said, “Whom do you say that I, Jesus, AM?” It is clearly stated, “I AM the way”. The awareness of being is the door through which the manifestations of life pass into the world of form.
Real life is lived in the individuality, the soul, or the real man; and so long as we consciously live in the real man, or in the I AM of being we shall continue to live more and more. We shall thus realize the fullness of life constantly, and constantly grow into a larger measure of that fullness. Life will be full; there will be no lack of life, and no retarded growth in life; in consequence, there will be no evil in life; we shall have perfect freedom and there will be nothing to overcome. Accordingly, we shall fully comply with the great statement, the true way to overcome is to so live that there is nothing to overcome.
This brings us to that much abused statement of the Bible on tithing. Teachers of all kinds have enslaved man with this affair of tithing, for not themselves understanding the nature of tithing and being themselves fearful of lack, they have led their followers to believe that a tenth part of their income should be given to the Lord. Meaning, as they make very clear that, when one gives a tenth part of his income to their particular organization, he is giving his “tenth part” to the Lord . . or is tithing. But remember, “I AM the Lord”. Your awareness of being is the God that you give to and you ever give in this manner. Therefore, when you claim yourself to be anything, you have given that claim or quality to God. And your awareness of being, which is no respecter of persons, will return to you pressed down, shaken together, and running over with that quality or attribute which you claim for yourself. Awareness of being is nothing that you could ever name. To claim God to be rich, to be great, to be love, to be all wise, is to define that which cannot be defined. For God is nothing that could ever be named. Tithing is necessary and you do tithe with God. But from now on give to the only God and see to it that you give him the quality that you desire as man to express by claiming yourself to be the great, the wealthy, the loving, the all wise.
