January 1
In the Book of Numbers you will read,
“In that day there were giants in the land; and we were in our own sight as grasshoppers. And we were in their sight as grasshoppers.”
This does not mean a time in the dim past when man had the stature of giants. Today is the day, the eternal now when conditions round about you have attained the appearance of giants (such as unemployed, the armies of your enemy, your problems and all things that seem to threaten you) those are the giant that make you feel yourself to be a grasshopper.
But, you are told,
“you were first, in your own sight a grasshopper and because of this you were to the giants, a grasshopper.”
In other words, you can only be to others what you are first to yourself. Therefore, to revalue yourself and begin to feel yourself to be the giant, a center of power, is to dwarf these former giants and make of them grasshoppers.
January 2
“He calleth things that are not seen as though they were,
and the unseen becomes seen.”
To assume the feeling of satisfaction is to call conditions into being which will mirror satisfaction.
“Signs follow, they do not precede”.
Proof that you are will follow the consciousness that you are; it will not precede it.
January 3
Think feelingly only of the state you desire to realize. Feeling the reality of the state sought and living and acting on that conviction is the way of all seeming miracles. All changes of expression are brought about through a change of feeling. A change of feeling is a change of destiny. All creation occurs in the domain of the subconscious.
What you must acquire, then, is a reflective control of the operation of the subconscious, that is, control of your ideas and feelings.
January 4
Unless you consciously and purposely define the attitude of mind with which you go to sleep, you unconsciously go to sleep in the composite attitude of mind made up of all feelings and reactions of the day.
Every reaction makes a subconscious impression and, unless counteracted by an opposite and more dominant feeling, is the cause of future action. Ideas enveloped in feeling are creative actions.
January 5
The Bible compares the opinionated man to the camel who could not go through the needle’s eye.
The needle’s eye referred to was a small gate in the walls of Jerusalem, which was so narrow that a camel could not go through it until relieved of its pack.
The rich man, that is the one burdened with false human concepts, cannot enter the Kingdom of Heaven until relieved of his burden any more than could the camel go through this small gate.
Man feels so secure in his man-made laws, opinions and beliefs that he invests them with an authority they do not possess.
Satisfied that his knowledge is all, he remains unaware that all outward appearances are but states of mind externalized.
When he realizes that the consciousness of a quality externalizes that quality without the aid of any other or many values, and establishes the one true value, his own consciousness.
January 6
You, by your conscious assumptions, determine the nature of the world in which you live.
Ignore the present state and assume the wish fulfilled.
Claim it; it will respond.
The law of assumption is the means by which the fulfillment of your desires may be realized.
January 7
“I AM come not to destroy but to fulfill.”
Nothing is actually destroyed. Any seeming destruction is a result of a change in consciousness.
Consciousness ever fills full the state in which it dwells.
The state from which consciousness is detached seems to those not familiar with this law to be destructive.
However, this is only preparatory to a new state of consciousness.
Claim yourself to be that which you want filled full.
“Nothing is destroyed. All is fulfilled.”
“To him that hath it shall be given”
January 8
Man attracts what he is. The art of life is to sustain the feeling of the wish fulfilled and let things come to you, not to go after them or think they flee away.
Observe your inner talking and remember your aim. Do they match? Does your inner talking match what you would say audibly had you achieved your goal?
The individual’s inner speech and actions attract the conditions of his life. Through uncritical self-observation of your inner talking you find where you are in the inner world, and where you are in the inner world is what you are in the outer world. You put on the new man whenever ideals and inner speech match. In this way alone can the new man be born.
Inner talking matures in the dark. From the dark it issues into the light. The right inner speech is the speech that would be yours were you to realize your ideal.
January 9
“Two shall agree as touching anything
and it shall be established on earth.”
This agreement is never made between two persons. It is between the awareness and the thing desired. You are now conscious of being, so you are actually saying to yourself, without using words, “I AM.”
Now, if it is a state of health that you are desirous of attaining, before you have any evidence of health in your world, you begin to feel yourself to be healthy. And the very second the feeling “I AM healthy” is attained the two have agreed.
January 10
Man believes that reality resides in the solid objects he sees around him, that it is in this world, that the drama of life originates, that events spring suddenly into existence, created moment by moment out of antecedent physical facts.
But causation does not lie in the external world of facts.
The drama of life originates in the imagination of man. The real act of becoming takes place within man’s imagination and not without.
January 11
The wise and disciplined man sees no barrier to the realization of his desire; he sees nothing to destroy. With a fixed attitude of mind he recognizes that the thing desired is already fully expressed, for he knows that a fixed subjective state, has ways and means of expressing itself, of which no man knows.
“Before they ask I have answered.”
“I have ways ye know not of.”
“My ways are past finding out.”
The undisciplined man, on the other hand, constantly sees opposition to the fulfillment of his desire, and, because of the frustration, he forms desires of destruction which he firmly believes must be expressed before his basic desire can be realized.
January 12
You must assume the feeling of the wish fulfilled until your assumption has all the sensory vividness of reality. You must imagine that you are already experiencing what you desire. That is, you must assume the feeling of the fulfillment of your desire until you are possessed by it and this feeling crowds all other ideas out of your consciousness.
The man who is not prepared for the conscious plunge into the assumption of the wish fulfilled in the faith that it is the only way to the realization of his dream is not yet ready to live consciously by the law of assumption, although there is no doubt that he does live by the law of assumption unconsciously.
But for you, who accept this principle and are ready to live by consciously assuming that your wish is already fulfilled, the adventure of life begins.
January 13
Instead of looking upon the Bible as the historical record of an ancient civilization or the biography of the unusual life of Jesus, see it as a great psychological drama taking place in the consciousness of man.
January 14
Make your inner conversation match your fulfilled desire. What you desire to hear without, you must hear within. Embrace the without within and become one who hears only that which implies the fulfillment of his desire, and all the external happenings in the world will become a bridge leading to the objective realization of your desire.
January 15
I do not think that any person in prayer feels more of the joy, the piety, and the feeling of adoration, than I do when I feel thankful, as I assume the feeling of my wish fulfilled, knowing at the same time it is to myself that I turned.
In prayer you are called upon to believe that you possess what your reason and your senses deny. When you pray believe that you have and you shall receive.
The Bible states it this way:
“Therefore I say unto you, What things soever ye desire, when ye pray, believe that ye receive them, and ye shall have them.”
January 16
Commands, to be effective, must be to oneself.
“I AM that I AM”
is the only effective command.
“I AM the Lord and beside Me there is none else.”
You cannot command that which is not. As there is no other, you must command yourself to be that which you would have appear.
Let me clarify what I mean by effective command. You do not repeat like a parrot the statement,
“I AM that I AM”;
such vain repetition would be both stupid and fruitless.
It is not the words that make it effective; it is the consciousness of being the thing which makes it effective.
When you say, “I AM”, you are declaring yourself to be.
The word ‘that’ in the statement, “I AM that I AM”, indicates that which you would be.
The second “I AM” in the quotation is the cry of victory.
This whole drama takes place inwardly with or without the use of words.
January 17
Turn from appearances and assume the feeling that would be yours were you already the one you wish to be.
Feeling a state produces that state. The part you play on the world’s stage is determined by your conception of yourself. By feeling your wish fulfilled and quietly relaxing into sleep, you cast yourself in a star role to be played on earth tomorrow, and, while asleep, you are rehearsed and instructed in your part. The acceptance of the end automatically wills the means of realization. Make no mistake about this.
January 18
The Ten Commandments were written on tablets of stone for those incapable of seeing any deeper meaning. Stone represents the most external and literal form of spiritual truth, and water refers to another way of understanding the same truth. Wine or spirit is the highest form of understanding it.
“Such as men themselves are, such will God appear to them to be,”
wrote John Smith, the Cambridge Platonist.
“The God of the moralist is before all things a great judge and schoolmaster; the God of Science is impersonal and inflexible Vital Law; the God of the savage is the kind of chief he would be himself if he had the opportunity.”
No man’s conduct will be higher than his conception of God, and his conception of God is determined by the kind of man he, himself, is.
January 19
Control of your feeling is all important to a full and happy life. Never entertain an undesirable feeling, nor think sympathetically about wrong in any shape or form. Do not dwell on the imperfection of yourself or others. To do so is to impress the subconscious with these limitations. What you do not want done unto you, do not feel that it is done unto you or another. This is the whole law of a full and happy life. Everything else is commentary.
January 20
There are infinite number of states. The state of health, the state of sickness, the state of wealth, the state of poverty, the state of being known, the state of being unknown . . all are only states and everyone is always in a state. We all have one state in which we are very comfortable, so we return to it moment after moment. That state constitutes our dwelling place. If it is not a pleasant state, we can always get out of it.
How this is done is the secret I will now share with you. All states are mental. You cannot remove yourself from your present state by pulling strings on the outside. You must mentally adjust your thoughts to proceed from the desired state, all within yourself. You fell into your present state either deliberately or unwittingly; and because you are its life, the state became alive and grew like a tree, bearing its fruit which you do not like. Its fruit may be that of poverty, or distress, heartache, or pain.
There are all kinds of unlovely fruit. But you can detach yourself from your unlovely harvest by making an adjustment in your human Imagination. Ask yourself what you would like to harvest. When you know what it is, ask yourself how you would feel if your desire was ready to harvest right now. When you know the feeling, try to catch it. In my own case I find it easier to catch the feeling by imagining I am with people I know well and they are seeing me as they would if my desire were now a fact. And when the feeling of reality possesses me, I fall asleep in that assumption. At that moment I have entered a state. Now, I must make that state as natural as I have made my present state. I must consciously return to my new state constantly.
January 21
The world is a magic circle of infinite possible mental transformations. For there are an infinite number of possible mental conversations. When man discovers the creative power of inner talking, he will realize his function and his mission in life. Then he can act to a purpose. Without such knowledge, he acts unconsciously. Everything is a manifestation of the mental conversations which go on in us without our being aware of them. But as civilized beings, we must become aware of them and act with a purpose.
January 22
Every man automatically expresses that which he is conscious of being. Without effort or the use of words, at every moment of time, man is commanding himself to be and to possess that which he is conscious of being and possessing.
This changeless principle of expression is dramatized in all the Bibles of the world.
The writers of our sacred books were illumined mystics, past masters in the art of psychology. In telling the story of the soul, they personified this impersonal principle in the form of a historical document both to preserve it and to hide it from the eyes of the uninitiated.
Today, those to whom this great treasure has been entrusted, namely, the priesthoods of the world, have forgotten that the Bibles are psychological dramas representing the consciousness of man; in their blind forgetfulness, they now teach their followers to worship its characters as men and women who actually lived in time and space.
When man sees the Bible as a great psychological drama, with all of its characters and actors as the personified qualities and attributes of his own consciousness, then and then only will the Bible reveal to him the light of its symbology.
January 23
The great secret of success is a controlled inner conversation from premises of fulfilled desire. The only price you pay for success is the giving up of your former conversation which belongs to the Old Man, the unsuccessful man. The time is ripe for many of us to take conscious charge in creating heaven on earth. To consciously and voluntarily use our Imagination, to inwardly hear and say only that which is in harmony with our ideal, is actively bringing heaven to earth.
January 24
All things, when they are admitted, are made
manifest by the light: for everything that
is made manifest is light.
The “Light” is consciousness. Consciousness is one, manifesting in legions of forms or levels of consciousness.
There is no one that is not all that is, for consciousness, though expressed in an infinite series of levels, is not divisional. There is no real separation or gap in consciousness.
I AM cannot be divided. I may conceive myself to be a rich man, a poor man, a beggar man or a thief, but the center of my being remains the same, regardless of the concept I hold of myself.
At the center of manifestation, there is only one I AM manifesting in legions of forms or concepts of itself and
“I AM that I AM”.
January 25
Man’s ignorance of the future is the result of his ignorance of his inner talking. His inner talking mirrors his imagination, and his imagination is a government in which the opposition never comes into power.
If the reader asks,
“What if the inner speech remains subjective and is unable to find an object for its love?”,
the answer is: it will not remain subjective, for the very simple reason that inner speech is always objectifying itself.
January 26
Begin now to actively, constantly, use your imagination; for as you prove its creative power on this level, you are awakening to a higher level and birth into the spirit world where you know yourself to be God. Prove to yourself that you are God by feeling your desire is now an accomplished fact. Listen to your friends talk about you. Are they rejoicing because of your good fortune, or are they expressing envy? Imagine their words are true. Persist in imagining they are true. Continue to imagine your desire is already an accomplished fact; and when it is objectively realized, proof will be yours.
Think of something lovely you would like to give another. Then ask yourself if you gave it to him and he wouldn’t accept it, would you want to keep it for yourself? If, for instance, you gave a friend a million dollars and he would not accept it, would you be willing to keep it? I’m sure you would. Then imagine giving the money to him, then give to others in the same way. You may not even have a bank account; but you can still give, because there is no one to give to but yourself! There is only God whose name is I AM!
January 27
The signs always follow. They never precede. Things have no reality other than in consciousness. Therefore, get the consciousness first and the thing is compelled to appear.
January 28
Any enlargement of our concept of Self involves a somewhat painful parting with strongly rooted hereditary conceptions. The ligaments are strong that hold us in the womb of conventional limitations.
All that you formerly believed, you no longer believe.
You know now that there is no power outside of your own consciousness.
Therefore you cannot turn to anyone outside of self.
You have no ears for the suggestion that something else has power in it.
You know the only reality is God, and God is your own consciousness. There is no other God. Therefore on this rock you build the everlasting church and boldly assume you are this Divine Being, self-begotten because you dared to appropriate that which was not given to you in your cradle, a concept of Self not formed in your mother’s womb, a concept of self conceived outside of the offices of man.
January 29
There is nothing God cannot do! Do not think that one who is fabulously rich has an influx of spirit which differs from yours. He is imagining wealth, either wittingly or unwittingly; but you can do it knowingly. If he does not know what he is doing, he can lose his wealth and not know how to recover it. I am asking you, regardless of your financial situation, to assume wealth, knowingly. If, tomorrow you would again return to your former state, bring wealth back by claiming “I AM wealthy,” for there is only one God. He who creates poverty also creates wealth, as there is no other creator.
January 30
There is no fiction.
If an imaginal activity can produce a physical effect, our physical world must be essentially imaginal.
To prove this would require merely that we observe our imaginal activities and watch to see whether or not they produce corresponding external effects. If they do, then we must conclude that there is no fiction.
Today’s imaginal drama, fiction, becomes tomorrow’s fact.
If we had this wider view of causation, that causation is mental, not physical, that our mental states are causative of physical effects, then we would realize our responsibility as a creator and imagine only the best imaginable.
Fable enacted as a sort of stage-play in the mind is what causes the physical facts of life.
January 31
“I AM the beginning and the end”
reveals my consciousness as the cause of the birth
and death of all expression.
“I AM hath sent me”
reveals my consciousness to be the Lord which sends me into the world in the image and likeness of that which I am conscious of being to live in a world composed of all that I am conscious of.
